Parallels: Somerset Rural Life Museum
This solo exhibition comprises process-based drawings made in, of and about the landscape; the result of a particular set of conditions, in a particular place, over a particular span of time. They record celestial time, geological time and human time as well as the weather patterns unique to that day and site: a meditation on time and space. Directly indexed to each drawing and quite literally making the fourth dimension, three-dimensional, are cast iron sculptures recording the midday shadow from each of the twelve geological time periods.
In the beautiful Abbey Barn I will be showing a large concrete shadow sculpture Bearing Witness to Things Unseen, alongside a specially commissioned film and my drawing table set up with stone and drawing, as if I have briefly left it.
The exhibition is accompanied by a book under the same title, published to coincide with the exhibition which is a collaboration between my gallery CLOSE Ltd, the South West Heritage Trust and Somerset Rural Life Museum.
