Commissioned by Rosewood Hotels to celebrate the opening of Rosewood Doha, Geogenesis is a site-specific sculpture which celebrates Qatar’s geology as well as the aspirational design of the building behind it. Ibrahim M. Jaidah, CEO of AEB who designed the building says of the building that it is "Inspired by the coral reefs that shape Qatar’s coastline, the facade of Rosewood Doha is an ode to the geometry of the natural world". Worn through the passage of time, the natural beauty and permanence of this indigenous Qatari limestone boulder references the geological and historical significance of Qatar’s nature. It is a robust material to build upon both physically and metaphorically, the literal bedrock of all that it supports.
Balanced on top is its digitally created counterpart: a mirrored state of duality in both surface and form. Cast in white bronze, its captivating surfaces reflects the busy urban environment which surrounds it. In a fast-changing world the reassuringly calm presence of the bedrock below and its state of renewal above, can be seen to represent the interconnectedness between humankind's technological innovation and growth, and the natural world which supports it. Geogenesis manifests both continuity and change, a celebration of the past, present and future, an aspirational touchstone for what can be.
